Series Description:
A writing workshop for reluctant and blocked writers, and for those just looking to put the fun back into the creative writing process.
We all have those times when the words don't flow. Whether you are are a student who can think of about a million other things that you would rather be doing than writing that English assignment, or a veteran author who has spent the last chunk of time staring at a blank page where words should be, this workshop is for you!
While it explores ideas from the stance of writing fiction, with a few easy adjustments it can be very helpful for non-fiction as well!
Category/Genre(s): Essays/Columns, Nonfiction, Journal EntriesAuthor Bio For Brittney Cassity:
In 2007, while her husband was working in Iraq, Brittney Cassity took up her pencil, paintbrush and commercial art background to create a book for her sons. It centered around the bedtime stories she had been telling them involving the adventures of a rather small dragon. The book born in 2008 from this process and a lot of support from her family was named Fiddlebug and has since touched more children and their parents than could have been guessed when the first words landed on the page. Fiddlebug and his friends are even now giggling their way to future stories that bring families closer and carry sweet dreams to little minds.
Then, in 2010, a feisty new character sprang into being in the early reading chapter book, Clyde the Undead Dust Bunny. Written in her newly acquired tree house studio in the front yard – re-purposed the second her boys outgrew it – Clyde firmly settled Brittney’s feet on the writing path. The book also introduced Brittney to a whole new audience and led to the creation of “Kick Starts for Creative Writers”, a six week workshop intended to help reluctant writers find ways to make the blocks dissolve and the process more fun.
Queen Calla's Heroes joined the shelf in 2013. This stand alone book features Fiddlebug and his friends in a story all about how fun it can be to lend a helping hand. Nature lovers will cheer as Bart the bat steals the spotlight in this fully illustrated story about creating the perfect new home for a young hive of honeybees.
Sheridan Starswimmer (2015) is a picture book with a more traditional word count that promises your little sleepyhead a beautiful journey into dreamland. Sheridan is having a very hard time getting to sleep. She uses an easy and effective visualization technique to overcome the over-tired grouchy feeling and the bright, full moon that is keeping her awake. (Psssst. This also happens to be a variation of my favorite way to get to sleep on overly awake nights leading up to busy days so I know it works!)
Brittney is active in West Virginia Writers, Inc., a state wide writing organization. She has served on their board, in the capacity of Regional Representative, as Contest Coordinator, and is currently Editor of the quarterly newsletter, Mountain Whispers. This has given her the opportunity to get to know some exceptionally talented writers and participate in (and plan) events that spread the love of writing and reading throughout the beautiful mountain state.
